RECORDING

  • To remind us of what has been found.
  • To discover population sizes or distribution of species.
  • To see changes over time that can highlight species or habitats at risk.
  • To show planners, developers and conservation organisations that species or habitats need to be protected.

Every record is of value for education, research and conservation.

WHAT TO RECORD
Four details are essential

What ..... species name - scientific name if possible.

Where ..... location of the find - with 6 figure OS grid reference.

When ..... date it was seen.

Who ..... full name of who it was found by.

Anything else is a bonus - photos, details of the site, insect behaviour and numbers etc.

FOR HELP WITH ID
  1. Take photos if you can, and make notes about what you found and where.
  2. There are many useful books and websites, plus apps which provide ID from an uploaded image. See our Resources list for suggestions.
  3. For further advice about sources of help, email our secretary Russell Nevin - russell.nevin@sky.com
REPORT YOUR SIGHTINGS
  • Send the details (what/where/when/who) to our Records Co-ordinator, Kieron Huston by email to morelemurs@talktalk.net
  • Records will be added to our database, and may be shared with other recorders, recording schemes and organisations.
  • Records remain the property of the person who recorded them.
