Insect Events in Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire

The Society has a number of active members who organise and run events on a regular basis a number of which are listed below.

Additionally individuals or groups of members hold their own recording events and activities throughout the year. Some of these are often on the spur of the moment, or with only a couple of days notice. These event details will not be notified to members but where possible will be advertised on this web site so check this page often.

If you wish to attend an event it is your responsibility to get in contact with the event leader.

Please remember that events are subject to change and are dependant on the weather so it is essential that you check this website often and confirm with the organiser that the event is going ahead, especially if the weather is bad. Also remember to bring suitable footwear, clothing, and equipment (such as torches) to events.

Saturday 31st March 2012 Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society Annual Exhibition 10:00am Community Centre, Fluin Lane, Frodsham, Cheshire. Grid reference SJ521777. Located off the A56 on the northern side of Frodsham. Junction 12 is the nearest point on the M56. A number of society members will be attending this event and it may be possible to share transport.

Saturday 26th May 2012 Bat and Moth Watch. Sturgess Fields, Markeaton, Derby. 9pm until Late. In conjunction with Wild Derby, Friends of Markeaton Brook and the University of Derby. Full details to be confirmed.

21st, 22nd and 23rd June 2012 National Moth Night 2012. This years theme is the moths of brownfield sites. The event going forwards will be confined to the warmest months of the year and will run over three consecutive nights (Thurs, Fri and Sat) in order to improve the chances of favorable mothing weather. A number of events will be held across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and these will be listed on this website once the details are confirmed.

Saturday 23rd June 2012 Moth Watch. The Avenue Washlands Nature Reserve, Mill Lane, Wingerworth Grid Ref SK396670 10:00pm until late. In conjunction with the Chesterfield Branch of the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. For site details and location click here.

Monday 25th June 2012 – Sunday 1st July 2012 National Insect Week. A number of events are likely to take place across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Details on the website www.nationalinsectweek.co.uk

Sunday 8th July 2012 Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Entomological Society Summer Exhibition 11:00am - 16:00pm at the Visitor Centre, Shipley Country Park

Friday 20th July 2012 Night World Wildlife & Star Watch Event at Rosliston Forestry Centre , Burton Road, Rosliston, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE12 8JX. Starts at 7:30 pm. Tel 01283 535039. Bat and Star talks, Moth watch and a chance to see the Owls. The Society will be running moth traps at this event.  

Friday 27th July 2012 Moth Watch Chaddesden Wood Nature Reserve, Derby. 9pm until late. Main entrance off Springwood Drive, Oakwood, Derby. Site details here . Full details to be confirmed.

Saturday 22nd September 2012 Northern Coleopterists ’ Meeting 2012 10:00am Manchester Museum, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL

Saturday 17th November 2012 DaNES Exhibition / Insect Show. 11 am to 4 pm. Nottingham Trent University, Brackenhurst Campus, Southwell. The Society will be holding a members day / mini exhibition in the at Nottingham Trent University , Brackenhurst Campus, Southwell, Notts. The event will take place in the Bramley Building. The campus is located on the A612. Postcode NG25 0QF. Grid Reference SK 6946 5243. Onsite refreshments will be available.
